St Donat’s Castle sits above the Vale of Glamorgan coast with views over the Bristol Channel. It is home to UWC Atlantic College, one of the founding schools of the United World Colleges movement, where around 350 students from more than 90 countries live and study together. The college is committed to Net Zero by 2040 and runs an on-campus organic farm.
Woodland creation provides inclusive opportunities for diverse communities to engage with nature. The UK’s Forest Commission research agency recognises that ‘working side by side to improve local spaces creates opportunities for conversation, cooperation and shared pride, helping to reduce isolation and strengthen neighbourhood ties’. This planting was a real success and we’ve since returned to expand the plantings for two subsequent years.
Dream For Trees donated 1,000 saplings, and organised a planting event for students and volunteers, establishing a Miyawaki forest that buffers onshore winds and extends wild habitats for diverse life.
